While the basic concept of soccer is simple, it is not until you dedicate your time and hours into the sport that you discover how complex and beautiful the game really is. There is so much more to soccer than scoring goals and passing. Without passion and love for this sport you will never understand how much more soccer is than just a game. Without this knowledge, you can never truly become a great player.
Anyone can follow directions from a coach and do numerous drills. Yes, you will improve and maybe even become good, but you will never be able to take yourself to the next level. Why? Most players have this mindset of doing things to get them done. Maybe to impress their coach that they can finish a drill in a certain amount of time. However, there is much more than finishing the drill that you can take away. The player needs to take the skills that they have used in the drill and apply it to their own game. They need to understand that the drill is for themselves and not the coach. If a player wants to become a champion, they need to put hours upon hours of their own time to become great. A clear majority of players, especially young players do not go beyond the basics because they lack the passion. They see soccer as a game and nothing more. However, when they start putting time, effort and focus into improving and start doing things for themselves, they may learn that it is more than a game and understand that it is a changing culture and language.
Even though the basics of soccer won’t change, and the rules of soccer will stay the same, the language will constantly be evolving. You will always need goals to win and be unable to use your hands, but the way each goal is scored will be different, each play will be different and there will be billions of new plays to come. The most famous plays will come from the best and most dedicated players. Those that found a real passion and put hours of their time into this language.
